Cricket World Cup League 2: Scotland lost to USA

Scotland suffered a heavy defeat to USA as their tour of Nepal in the Cricket World Cup League 2 ended on a negative note.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Richie Berrington’s side were bowled out for just 169 runs.

Mark Watt top-scored with 66 as seven batters failed to reach double figures.

In reply, American opener Smit Patel was dismissed on the first ball of the chase, summing up the day for the Scots.

Patel and Shayan Jahangir got the USA ahead of the required deficit and they never lost control, reaching their target for the loss of four wickets with 22.5 overs to spare.

“The wicket was probably a bit slower than we thought,” Berrington said. “We weren’t at our best. The batting wasn’t very good. A few guys contributed well, but there wasn’t enough support.

“When you don’t have runs to play with, it’s important to try and take early wickets. Unfortunately we didn’t do that and from there you chase the game.”

Scotland moved to the top of the standings after wins over hosts Nepal and the United States in Kirtipur, but have dropped to second place behind the United States after back-to-back losses.
