Craig Bellamy pledges Wales future: I’m not going anywhere | football news

Craig Bellamy has committed himself to Wales after speculation linking him with the Celtic and Burnley jobs.

Despite the injury that ruled him out of World Cup qualification following the play-off defeat in March, Bellamy is fully focused on his current role and being Wales boss for home Euros in 2028.

Speaking on Monday ahead of Wales’ friendly against Ghana on Tuesday night, Bellamy insisted he wanted to see the job done with his country within the next two years.

He said: “I don’t need anything else. That will come at another time and then we will discuss separately.

“But I think four years is about right. I don’t think international football should be longer than one manager. In two years it will be someone else’s turn.

“I’m not going anywhere, I’ve got two more years.

“I’m ambitious though, trust me.”

On club football, Bellamy added: “Look, I miss it every day.

“Of course, I miss not being able to do that every single day. But I knew what I was going to do.

“My relationship with Noel (Mooney, FAW CEO) is really, really strong. We talk every day, so we never hide anything. I’m completely open and honest with him. He knows exactly how I feel. Any interest, he knows exactly first-hand.

“For me, the most important thing is when that day comes (when he leaves), is it a situation that will allow me to succeed? Will everything be in place to allow me to be there? And right now, I’m here. Everything is fine. I’m fully supported and it will give me the opportunity, hopefully in the next two years, to improve again.

“The next scenario, we’ll see. Now Link, I don’t know. I understand that, but I don’t look into it too much. That’s the honest truth. I love what I’ve got here.

“I hope you’re reasonably happy with me and I hope the fans are reasonably happy with me. I’m not going to please everybody. I’m not going to be everybody’s cup of tea. I understand that.

“I’m sorry if I pick on certain players at certain times. I’m never going to please everyone, but that’s the big part of the game.

“It’s still a responsibility when you do it, so I’m fully focused on the next two years.”
