The Balogun case has been renewed
The president of the Norwegian Football Association, Liz Klavenes, announced on Thursday that she will file an official complaint with FIFA in the wake of the American striker Folarin Balogun’s case.
Claviness has revealed that US President Donald Trump phoned FIFA President Gianni Infantino during the recent World Cup between the US, Mexico and Canada to ask him to lift Balogun’s suspension after receiving a red card in one of the games.
Clavines explained that FIFA had already decided to lift the suspension from the player, while Infantino denied any connection between the decision and Trump’s call. Although most analysts agreed that the sending off decision was harsh, controversy surrounding the incident dominated the second half of the tournament.
In an interview with the newspaperTimes“Britain Clavines slammed FIFA officials, accusing them of trying to cover up the case and called on Infantino to admit that the decision to lift Balogun’s ban was a mistake.
Claves is known for his frequent criticism of FIFA and its president Infantino, who is popular on the European continent, especially after his decision to expand the men’s World Cup to 48 teams, increasing his chances of winning a new term next year to lead world soccer’s governing body.
