County Championship: Yorkshire first defeat of the season with dominant win at Surrey cricket news

Yorkshire romped to an innings and 127-run win at Headingley as Surrey fell to their first defeat of the season in Division One of the County Championship.

The White Rose claimed their last five wickets just before lunch on day four, after Surrey, who had started the day trailing by 199, quickly lost Dom Sibley for 34 and Josh Blake for 19 overnight.

From there the writing was on the wall Surrey bowled out for 155 runs.

It was their first innings defeat in the Championship since May 2024 when they were beaten by Hampshire, while Yorkshire sealed their second win of the season.

Jack Lehmann scored his first century for Hampshire to help them secure a draw against Utilita Bowl leaders and defending champions Nottinghamshire.

Lehmann, son of former Australia coach Darren Lehmann, tackled 205 deliveries for his unbeaten 102, before shaking hands with Hampshire on 207-6.

Warwickshire and Glamorgan are second and third respectively in the table despite their rain-interrupted draws at Edgbaston.

Colin Ingram made his century (101) before the visitors were bowled out for 259, with home bowler Ethan Bamber taking 5-48.

Warwickshire faced a target of 367 in a minimum of 75 overs and all the results were possible after Alex Davies’ 46 helped them to 100 for two before the rain returned before the end of the match.

Somerset needed three wickets to win but were hampered by the weather after dominating their match against Sussex at Taunton, which also ended in a draw.

More rain left Sussex reeling at 113-7 when the umpires called time, needing 160 more runs.

In Division Two, England captain Ben Stokes was dismissed for 45 as leaders Durham played out a rain-interrupted draw against Kent at Beckenham.

Ben Raine scored 106 and Callum Parkinson not out on 54 as they posted 158 for the 10th wicket to help Durham post 446 all out in reply to Kent’s first innings of 523.

The hosts lost opener Ben Dawkins for a wicket before the umpires called it a day.

Northamptonshire substitute Louis Kimber led his side to their second win of the season with a crucial knock of 66 in a thrilling two-wicket win over Gloucestershire in Bristol.

Northants resumed on 139-4, needing 106 to win, and Kimber scored a crucial 69-ball 66 after replacing the injured Saif Zaib halfway through the match. Lewis McManus and Ben Sanderson sealed Gloucestershire’s fifth defeat of the season.

Derbyshire secured their first Championship win over Middlesex at Lord’s in 24 years, by seven wickets, as Wayne Madsen and Matthew Montgomery shared an unbeaten 53-run partnership to see them home.

Captain Madsen was unbeaten on 31 and Montgomery was unbeaten on 21 after Middlesex were bowled out for 320 in the first hour of the final day.

In another weather-shortened contest, Lancashire and Worcestershire also settled for a draw in Southport as visiting captain Brett D’Oliveira (46 not out) and Matthew Waite (47 not out) steered their side to 211-5.

Lancashire declared on 281-8 to force victory either way – number eight Paul Coughlin made 61 – and although James Anderson took two quick wickets for the hosts, D’Oliveira and Waite made 97 to deny them.
