The scandals continue for the Teranga Lions
Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has been criticized by the president of the Senegalese football federation, Abdoulaye Foley, after a controversial press conference he gave yesterday, Monday, in which he revealed sensitive details related to the national team’s failures at the 2026 World Cup.
Koulibaly issued a strong message on his social media account calling for restraint and an end to public accounts initiated by Vallée after Belgium dumped the Lions of Teranga in the Round of 16 3-2 after extra time despite their lead until the 86th minute.
The former player of the Italian “Napoli” wrote: “Should we appear so stupid on the world stage? Let’s stop these personal conflicts that only cause division. Let’s not waste years of work, sacrifice and progress.”
Val throws time bombs
Waal held a press conference during which he singled out a number of individuals responsible for the failure of the national team, led by sacked coach Pape Tiau, who immediately paid the price for the failure by being sacked.
The President of the Senegalese Federation said: “Some players started controlling the coach. The players noticed that maybe we didn’t dare to replace some players, involve others or even invite them. “Even the national coach insisted in his report that there should be a bigger participation because he was not participating in this tournament.”
Val also criticized the team doctor, alluding to his insufficient training as a gynecologist, noting that his medical profession does not meet the requirements of working with a football team.
Koulibaly defends Senegal’s image
Amidst criticism of him personally over his deteriorating physical condition during the tournament, Coulibaly expressed his deep displeasure in a publicly humiliating way similar to internal strife.
Koulibaly led Senegal in the first two matches of the World Cup despite his shaky form, but he was left on the bench for the next two matches due to disappointing performances before he recently retired from international football.
Coulibaly added in his message: “There are many people who are responsible. Everyone should bear their responsibility clearly and humbly. Because today not only football is suffering, but also the image of Senegal.”
The former captain concluded his message in a cautionary tone, saying: “If we continue like this, we will not promote football, but we will bring it back. Advice to those concerned. A lion may fall sometimes, but it always gets back up.”
