Could soccer match soften North-South Korea ties?

For the first time since 2018, a women’s soccer match between North and South Korea will be the first time North Korean athletes have crossed the border.

Nagohyang won 2-1 Semi-final against South Korea’s SuwonThey qualified for the finals of the Asian Women’s Champions League.

The North Korean team will face Japan’s Tokyo Verdi Belleza in the final at the same stadium on Saturday. Within hours of going on sale, more than 7,000 tickets were sold for the rare North-South semi-final at the Suwon Sports Complex.

But with relations between the two countries so cold, BBC Seoul’s Jake Kuhn looks at whether the football match could spark a new diplomatic effort.
