Ansu Fati’s final move to Monaco has become close after the player realized that the doors to his return to Barcelona are closed.
Sources close to the player have told Mundo Deportivo that the contract with Monaco, where he spent last season on loan, is in the final stages after the player’s confirmation, but the sources did not specify a date for its official announcement.
Gordon closes the door on Fatty
Ansu Fati was hoping to return to Barcelona after finishing his career on a high note in Monaco with goals and excellent fitness.
The La Masia academy graduate saw himself as a good alternative to Rafinha and was hoping for a link with Barcelona’s sporting department, with the intervention of his agent Jorge Mendes also looking like another option.
But signing Anthony Gordon finally convinced him there was no place for him in Hansi Flick’s squad, prompting him to agree to an eventual move to Monaco.
11 million euros to settle the deal
The player’s agent and Monaco’s sporting authority are working to finalize the deal, and the French club will pay €11 million to activate the purchase option agreed in the loan deal.
Ansu Fati convinced “Monaco” for a long time, after 25 games and 9 goals, and became one of the reasons for the team’s qualification in European competitions.
The French club expressed its satisfaction with his game and wants him to stay, but not at any price. His salary will be significantly reduced compared to what he was getting at Barcelona.
Salary deferral and contract extension
Notably, before his departure, Ansu Fati extended his contract with Barcelona until June 2028, deferring part of his salary, as part of the Catalan club’s attempts to reduce the financial burden.
The only problem that remained was his contract with Monaco, which faced a slowdown due to the player’s desire to return to Barcelona, although his agent was making progress in negotiations.
