Conor McGregor will undergo surgery after his comeback fight against Max Holloway at UFC 329 ended prematurely with a knee injury, but he hopes to fight again.

McGregor tried to fight for a few seconds but looked to the referee to signal that he could not continue.
“All things work together for my good! All things are possible for me because I am a believer!” McGregor wrote on Instagram. “Surgery. Prehab. Back to martial arts practice. Go again. Contract final fight. God bless!”
Speaking after the fight, UFC president Dana White said: “Five years off is rough in this sport.
“We’re guessing a blown ACL. I guessed it when I saw it and so do the doctors.”
Asked if there might be an existing injury, White said there were no signs of it at last Friday’s official weigh-in. White added that, with McGregor’s millions of social-media views taking Holloway to the weigh-in, someone would notice if he was injured.
On Sunday, McGregor’s manager John Kavanagh said his client had no prior knee injuries.
“That opening jump switch kick was drilled every day for months, multiple times in the warm-up. Never had a problem,” Kavanagh wrote on Facebook.
“He threw the first kick and took a knee. It doesn’t get any worse than that.”
After the fight, McGregor also said that he had no previous injuries. McGregor said at X, “I kicked, planted and jumped, all over the camp and also on the stage before the fight.
“I was not injured in the war.”
Injuries and problems away from the game have derailed the 37-year-old Irishman’s career.
After breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier five years ago, McGregor was scheduled to meet Michael Chandler in June 2024 but was called off after McGregor broke his toe in training.
Later that year a jury in an Irish civil court found him responsible for the assault of Nikita Hand, who was accused of raping McGregor in 2018.
In October 2025, he received an 18-month ban after missing three attempts by Combat Sports Anti-Doping to collect a biological sample from him in 2024.
