Commonwealth Games: No medals in Glasgow 2026 swimming for Scotland after two nights in the pool

Friday night at Tollcross is always going to be a tough act to follow, isn’t it?

There were no podium places or thrilling performances for Scotland’s flowers on Saturday night, but there were still smiles among the Team Scotland swimming ranks as they secured a further spot in the final.

The roar that erupted here when Duncan Scott tapped the wall at the end of the men’s 200m individual medley final will struggle to match, but the loudest cheer of the night came when Angharad Evans stormed to victory in the second semi-final of the women’s 100m breaststroke.

The 23-year-old was an intimidating prospect in the pool and put everyone on edge – if they weren’t already – as he cruised home with the fastest time to book his place in Sunday’s final.

That showpiece is at 19:20 BST. An hour later, Katie Shanahan will look for her second medal in the 200m backstroke after winning silver in the 100m backstroke final on Friday.

Shanahan missed out on a second piece of metal in the final race of the night as he competed in the 4x100m mixed relay team which finished fifth, although they set a new Scottish record.

Part of the team was, surprisingly, poster boy Scott.

He received a hero’s welcome as he returned to finish second in the race behind Evan Jones and ahead of Avi Davies, but in the end the field was too strong.

Earlier in the evening, Sean McCann finished eighth in the men’s 400m freestyle final, Lucy Grieve seventh in the women’s 50m butterfly final and Matthew Ward broke the men’s 50m backstroke Scottish record on his way to seventh in that final.
