Gabriel Langton is in trouble after the first crash on the crossbar in the final race.

United Kingdom gymnast Gabriele Langton was unconscious and talking to doctors after being taken to hospital after a serious fall during the men’s team gymnastics competition at the Commonwealth Games, team officials said.

The 19-year-old fell to the ground on Friday after going off the crossbar in the final round of the competition, prompting a lengthy stoppage as medical staff rushed to help him.

Langton was treated on the field for several minutes before being placed on a stretcher, given head and neck support and taken from the stadium to the hospital for further evaluation.

Langton was conscious, walking and talking to doctors, team officials said.

“We are grateful to the medical teams who responded so quickly to help us,” Team England said.

“He has been taken to hospital and we will share more information as it becomes available.”

The incident cast a shadow over the rest of the tournament, with England finding money behind Canada after the restart.

Australia took bronze, securing its first men’s gymnastics medal since winning gold at the ⁠2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Langton, who was drafted into the team to replace six-time Olympic medalist Max Whitlock, was unable to celebrate his team’s finish.

“From what we’ve heard, he’s doing well,” said Langton’s partner, Luke Whitehouse.
