Team Wales captain Olivia Breen won her first Welsh medal of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in athletics with a season’s best silver of 12.86 seconds in the T38 100m final.
Breen, the defending champion, was defeated by England’s Sophie Hahn to win the gold.
Breen, who turned 30 on the eve of the final, edged out England’s Maddie Down in a photo-finish.
This is the fourth Commonwealth medal of his career. Wales have now won seven Games medals, including two silver and five bronze in Glasgow.
Breen said the medal meant even more after battling injuries and injuries this year.
“I’m really happy with the performance – I kept myself together, kept my form and it was a really good start and couldn’t have asked for anything more, it felt really good.
“I’m very happy that I got a medal today, it’s obviously going to be a tough race, I was determined, I put everything on track.
“Waiting around (for silver confirmation) was nerve-racking, but it was amazing and I’m really happy with the way I ran the heat this morning and saved myself for tonight.
Brain returned to his captaincy duties.
“It’s really good to see how well Team Wales is doing,” he said.
“The swimmers are doing really well, the gymnasts and more are to come and I’m really excited to go tomorrow and support the team and see what Wales can do.”
