More than two years ago, Archie Goodburn’s world fell apart.
The Scottish 50m breaststroke record holder was dreaming of the Paris Olympics when she checked her phone at the end of another grueling pool session.

Goodburn was told he had brain cancer. He was 22 years old.
Further investigation, including biopsy surgery, revealed three ‘low grade’ tumors. Invalid and cannot be removed is how they spread through his brain.
In fact, he was told he wouldn’t see his 40s.
So when Goodburn – now 25 – went out on perhaps the biggest swing of the week at Tollcross on Monday to compete in the Commonwealth Games final, there must have been a frenzy of emotion.
After the qualifying round on Sunday, there were tears in my eyes. What happened hit home the magnitude of what he was doing. But when he stepped on the blocks for the finals, the contestant returned.
“Last night, I achieved the initial goal of getting to the final. Then in the next 24 hours, you look for something more,” he told BBC Sport Scotland.
