Ramsay-Petty went eight years unbeaten in the 100m and is the greatest breaststroker of all time in that event and in the 50m.
He was the Commonwealth champion in the 50m and decided to continue with the sport as it was added to the 2028 Olympic programme.
On Saturday, he suggested the shorter distance would give him the chance to win a medal in Los Angeles in his lifetime.
“I thought I could have done better there,” Ramsey-Petty said after finishing in 26.94 seconds – 0.44 seconds behind Williamson.
“In terms of the season, it is very disappointing, and as we know, time equals medals.
“I felt like I could have been a little faster, but I have to watch it and see where it goes because it doesn’t make sense this week to be honest.”
Ramsay-Petty took over the arrangements under Mel Marshall, who moved to Australia in 2024.
After the Paris 2024 Olympics, Ramsay-Petty began training at Repton in Derbyshire but has since moved to London under the tutelage of Lisa Battis.
“I’m very, very happy, I couldn’t be happier where I’m training right now,” Ramsay-Petty said.
“It’s hard work, but we have to make sure that hard work is in the right place.
“These things don’t happen in three months, they happen in two years, and we have to continue to invest.”
