CMN’s birthmark is no obstacle for the young footballer TV star.

The family of a teenage footballer with a rare skin condition have spoken of their pride after securing a role on CBBC show Jamie Johnson FC.

Ethan, from York, has congenital melanocytic nevus (CMN), an inherited condition that causes large birthmarks covering up to 80% of the body.

However, his parents Tom and Abby say the 14-year-old’s birthday “has never defined him” and his achievements are a testament to his “determination and strength”.

Jodie Whitehouse from CMN charity Caring Mates Now said: “Seeing Ethan on screen means so much not just to our CMN community but to every young person who has been discriminated against because of their appearance.

Ethan’s new role at insider soccer academy Hawks United joins aspiring players for season four.

He was selected to appear in the series during his time with the York City FC Academy.

His audition included playing a soccer match with the current cast of the television show to showcase his skills, after which he was selected as a member of the team.

Executive producer Sam Talbot said Ethan’s role in the series reflects “something very important to us as a show.”

“We want all kids to see themselves on the screen and feel like they’re in the stories we’re telling them,” he said.

“Creating a world that reflects the diversity and individuality of our audience will always be at the heart of what we do.”
