According to the newspaper The dayMexican state governor Samuel García Sepulveda said the decision aims to ease travel in the greater Monterrey area, given the expectations that thousands of fans will arrive in the city for the match.
Garcia said the government will publish the decision in the state’s official gazette to suspend classes in all public and private schools of various educational levels, in addition to suspending work in non-essential government agencies, while vital services such as security and civil defense will continue to perform their duties as normal.
The governor of Nuevo León also called on private sector companies to give their employees flexibility in working hours and encourage telecommuting where possible to ease traffic congestion expected during the day of the match.
The report explains that these measures are also part of the measures taken by other cities in Mexico that are hosting World Cup competitions in light of preparations to welcome large numbers of fans.
