Claressa Shields is set to restart negotiations for a women’s superfight against Lauren Price with promoter Dimitri Salita hopeful a deal can be agreed.

Shields appeared in Cardiff to face Price in April, fueling expectations that a fight between the American multi-weight world champion and Wales’ unified welterweight titleholder could be the final.

The fight has yet to be confirmed and Shields is currently preparing for a middleweight bout against Kaye Scott for the WBC and WBA titles, but her promoter Solita thinks a deal could be sorted.

Lauren Price said she would ‘love to share the ring’ with Shields after her unanimous decision win over Stephanie Pinheiro Aquino

“When Claressa went to Wales, we believed we had a contract structure in place and we’re still operating with that spirit,” Solita said. Sky Sports.

“I believe we are close. Claressa is going down to 160lbs because she wants to make this fight happen. She has already accomplished a lot but she is always looking for the biggest global fight.

“She wants to face the best fighters and continue to help women’s boxing reach new audiences around the world.

“Lauren is an outstanding fighter and an Olympic gold medallist. This is one of the biggest fights ever in women’s boxing and we are confident it will happen.

“Claressa has always done her part to make the biggest fights possible and this is no different. We are ready to continue the discussion.”

Price has not announced his next fight since retaining his WBA, WBC and IBF titles with a wide decision win over Stephanie Pinheiro Aquino with Shields watching from ringside.

The skilled southpaw has welcomed a showdown with Shields at a higher weight, but the Michigan boxer will first try to add another historic feat to his long list of accomplishments.

“Right now, Claressa’s whole focus is on August 15 (for her fight against Scott),” Solita said.

Shields discussed a possible fight with Price and insisted that the pair could fight in both America and the UK for a rematch.

“He has a chance to do something that’s only been done once in over 100 years – come down from heavyweight and win the middleweight world title.

“That’s where all of his focus is. Once that challenge is behind him, he’ll continue to fight the biggest fights available, and Lauren Price is definitely one of them.

“Of course, we want to fight. Throughout Clarence’s career, we have worked with promoters from every major company because we believe the best fighters should face each other.

“That’s how the sport grows, that’s what the fans want, and that’s the approach we’ve always taken. We’re willing to work with everyone to make it the biggest fight in women’s boxing.”
