Chickenhare Review and Groundhog Recipe – travel fun for plucky hybrid critters | Movie

Aalthough this painting doesn’t have a dramatic theme like its predecessor, Chickenhare and Hamster of Darknessit’s still a decent 90-ish minutes of pastel-colored picaresque fun. It sounds a bit out of place for younger viewers based on the simple character arcs, all the goodness and the tone of the comedy, but the plot is surprisingly complex. The main character is called Chickenhare because he is definitely half-chicken and half-rabbit, although in practice he looks more like a rabbit than a chicken rather than the feathers on his head. He is best friends with a skunk named Meg, who has an amazing sense of smell and is marked by her hips, faux-hawk and tomboy looks; there is also a turtle named Abe, who you can imagine is less inclined to run than the other two.

After an exciting opening scene that feels heavily inspired by Indiana Jones, the three treasure hunters run into a wild cat named Crolloq, an old school friend (boyfriend?) of Meg. Angry at Meg for various reasons, he leaves the other three in the hole but eventually escapes with the shiny gold he’s been searching for all along, a doodah that will come in handy later. One thing leads to another, as they do, and they embark on a new journey in search of a 3,000-year-old bee with a reversible face that can turn back time. A new character accompanies them along the way: Gina, Chickenhare’s long-lost sister who is, wait for it, a rabbit – more aviform than mammalian.

Of course, no one is what they seem at first – and in the middle of the movie the three main characters separate and then face different obstacles before they meet again in the big climax when all the fathers get back together. The last message is about accepting your inner self or such feelings, but the journey is what matters, especially all the parties along the way and learning to forgive old friends for the small things of the past.
