Chersey: Man charged with rape and murder after 2-year-old girl’s death

A man has been charged with murder following the discovery of the body of a two-year-old girl at a Chersey address.

At around 17:40 BST on Thursday, officers were called to a Peacroft Road address following reports of a security threat.

Kevin Kergen, 31, will appear at Guildford Crown Court on Monday charged with raping and sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13.

Surrey Police had earlier said the girl was three years old.

The investigation into the deaths is ongoing and the force is not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, he said.

Kerjean is said by police to be a French national born in the Central African Republic.

Det Ch Supt Jon Groenen said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the child’s family and everyone who knew her.

He added: “Our teams are working hard to establish a picture of what happened, and a significant police presence will remain in Pyrcroft Road over the coming days.”

Several bouquets of flowers were left at the entrance to Seward Place on the corner of Peacroft Road and Bell Bridge Road on Thursday.

“We appreciate the incident itself and the significant presence of the police,” Gronen said.

“Thank you for your cooperation during our investigation.”
