Champions League final: Arrests and investigation into fan clashes in Budapest

Police in Budapest are studying camera footage to identify fans fighting ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

A police statement said the incident took place on Saturday morning.

Footage emerged on social media of around 30 fans at each club brawling and flaming.

“Several fans fought on May 30, 2026 at 00:20 in Budapest’s 7th district on Király Street,” a police statement said.

“The BRFK 7th District Police Department has launched a trial against unknown criminals for the crime of gang violence, in the framework of which the camera footage is being analyzed.”

Around 4,000 police officers will be deployed in the Hungarian capital for the Champions League final, with tens of thousands of fans expected to travel to Budapest without tickets.

“This will be the biggest one-day police operation in Hungary’s history,” Zoltan János Kučík, deputy chief of the Hungarian National Police, said on Tuesday.

The security arrangement, which began a year ago, has been described as a “high-risk incident”.

Two Portuguese and an Englishman were arrested on Friday on charges of disorderly conduct and fighting at a Champions League fan festival.

An Englishman who climbed onto the roof of a parked car and damaged the vehicle was also arrested, the police said.
