The ability to make contactless payments may sound magical, but Cash App is leaning into it with its latest addition. The mobile payment service is introducing the Cash App Wand: an NFC-enabled, transparent, star-shaped wand that allows users to pay on the go without taking out their phone or card.
The Cash App alternative is different because it is more integrated and uses a built-in NFC tag that integrates with the active Cash App Card. It comes with a key chain that you can attach to your belt or bag (if you don’t mind it getting stolen, though this one doesn’t. take a look as a card). The extension is designed to appeal to young people, with Cash App reporting that 1 in 5 young people in the US already use a Cash App Card.
The Wand is available to eligible customers ages 13 and up starting today for $25 via the Cash App “while supplies last.” It works anywhere Visa tap payments are accepted and has security features that let you lock or unlock within the app, along with real-time notifications and 24/7 fraud detection support.
If you’re not a fan of wands, don’t worry — this is the first of many Cash App Tags planned, and the company says it plans to roll out new Tag designs “in the coming weeks,” before making them available sometime this summer.
