The first of a series of flashpoints between Russell and Antonelli came on lap six after the two Mercedes swapped their front-row starting positions for a one-two at the start.
Antonelli tried to pass Russell on the outside for turn one, but ended up on the grass, taking second place.
This was the occasion where Antonelli was furious and the Italian continued to complain after the race.
“It was a tough fight,” he said. “I have to evaluate that. I tried to make my move but I was good with my side and I was pushed.”
A little further on in the same lap, Antonelli Braking shot the point at turn eight, onto the grass and out the other side of the chicane.
Antonelli raised his arms at this incident and hit a bump on the track, ending the race.
Norris moved into second place and was soon behind Russell challenging for the lead.
After falling back a bit following the incident, Antonelli made it a three-way battle for the lead and attempted to pass Norris in turn one with two laps to go.
Again, he went off the track and Norris moved on.
At the same time, McLaren’s second driver Oscar Piastre overtook Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari for fourth, before the seven-time champion lost another place to team-mate Charles Leclerc before the end of the race.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen failed to finish in the top six after a solo race in seventh place, while Racing Bull’s Arvid Lindblad took the final points in eighth.
