Kim Antonelli said he and Mercedes team-mate George Russell were “both lucky” in an incident during the Canadian Grand Prix.
The Italian said he was frustrated by the turn one incident on lap six, which saw him go off the track as he tried to overtake Russell on the outside.
“I was pretty good around it and I definitely had contact, so I have to prove that again,” Antonelli said.
Russell said: “It was tense, it was close, but close on my side, it was a tough race, I don’t think I did anything wrong.
“There was nothing wrong with driving and it wasn’t even investigated. So that’s enough.”
Antonelli voiced his displeasure about Russell on team radio while driving but was told by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff to stop “moaning”.
Wolf later added: “It was great cinema. A tough fight, not only between us, but also with Lando[Norris]. I really enjoyed watching it.
“You can see how fast it goes, you create a gap with two cars and you start fighting a bit and you can lose the race. If it’s long and unlucky for us and it’s a grand prix, Norris could very well win.
“I really enjoy these moments because it allows us to learn and learn: ‘OK, what are we doing in this situation, how are we going to handle it in the future?’ Because you don’t want to lose race, you don’t want to argue with each other and sometimes it takes a little time to remind ourselves what our purpose is.
“This is not particularly about one or the other. There is a framework that we want to establish and I would rather have it in a sprint race where I don’t see a lot of points than in the main race.”
