The Round of 16 begins on Saturday when World Cup champions Canada face Morocco in Houston, Texas.
It’s a historic day for Canadian soccer, as the men’s team gets to play in the round of 16 for the first time in their history, as a victory too late in South Africa.
But in order to extend the dream, Canada faces a big challenge against Morocco, who surprised the Netherlands on penalties to sell their ticket for this round.
The African champions, runners-up in the last edition, are unbeaten in this year’s tournament and will be tough with every game.
Al Jazeera tells you all about Canada vs Morocco:
Canada finished second in Group B with four points, earning a win Qatar and a draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina. They lost to Switzerland in the final group stage. The Canadians beat South Africa 1-0 in the round of 32.
Morocco was second in Group C with seven points, having won against Scotland and Haitiand Hold Brazil to pull. In the Round of 32, they scored a late goal to force the game into extra time before defeating the Netherlands 3-2 in a thrilling shootout.
Canada is bottom of the last 16 games, 24 places below world number 6 Morocco in the FIFA rankings. But after breaking numerous records in the tournament – including securing their first World Cup point and winning their first match – their campaign is a success.

For Morocco, the game against Canada is another challenge that they are looking forward to this summer in North America. Four years after Spain and Portugal became the first Arab and African countries to reach the semifinals, Morocco has arrived with big ambitions and high hopes.
“If things go wrong, we will go home,” said Morocco’s manager, Mohamed Ouahbi. “We have to make sure we have all the weapons and we’re using the weapons in our military to be as effective as possible.”
Canada will be keeping an eye on Morocco’s talismanic Ismael Saibari, a three-goal scorer and Bayern Munich signing who also scored 16 goals.
The Opta supercomputer gives Morocco a 52.7% chance of winning in regulation time, while Canada is at 21.7%.
