The Confederation of African Football has decided its position on a proposal to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League to the 12 highest-ranked federations.
The current system of participation in the continental championships is based on the ranking of national federations, where the countries that advance in the ranking receive four places, two places in the African Champions League and the same in the African Confederation Cup.
Egypt occupies an advanced position in this classification, which guarantees it four places per year, which increases the intensity of competition between its clubs, given the great sporting and marketing values of the continental championships.

In this context, the Egyptian league is seeing a tense battle for the title this season between the three leading clubs, Zamalek Club, Pyramids Club and Al-Ahly Club, with only two rounds left in the competition.
Zamalek lead the table with 50 points, ahead of Pyramids by the same point, while Al-Ahly are third with 47 points, keeping the competition open until the final moments.
And it was revealed Moroccan website “Le360 Sport”. The main problem is not only related to the decision to increase the number of clubs, but rather the difficulty of getting it off the ground, as this trend will necessarily lead to an increase in the number of matches, especially in the preliminary stages, which requires additional time space that is not available in the current calendar.

The report states that the start of the football season will coincide with the African Cup of Nations qualifiers in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya, with the finals being played at the end of the season, putting great pressure on the fixture schedule and making it very difficult from an organizational point of view to add new matches.
The proposal was intended to allow major federations to include three or four clubs in the Champions League instead of two, a move that would help broaden the participation base and increase the competition’s competitive and commercial value.
The list of federations that are subject to this offer includes a number of the most prominent African countries, including Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Nigeria and South Africa, in addition to other countries that currently benefit from the two-place system of the Champions League and the same in the Confederation.
Based on this data, it was decided to temporarily postpone the proposal until an appropriate time formula is reached to allow its implementation, especially since its implementation in the next edition seems almost impossible, given the unprecedented crowd on the agenda of African football.
