Paraguay right-back Juan Jose Caceres has revealed touching details of his intense confrontation with France star Kylian Mbappe during the 1-0 defeat that sent his country out of the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking to TyC Sports after Paraguay’s exit from the tournament, the Argentinian revealed a funny moment during heated clashes with Mbappe, smiling and saying: “He told me. “What, you want to kiss me?”
The Dynamo Moscow player added: “Fortunately, he was playing in a closer position than next to me, but I had to forcefully interfere with him, otherwise he would have run away from me,” emphasizing that the defense plan imposed strict control over him.
The match saw noticeable tension, prompting Mbappe, who awarded the decisive penalty, to express his anger at the Paraguayan’s style of play, saying: “We showed that we are not just a team that plays beautiful football. them.”
But Caceres flatly rejected those accusations, stressing. “I didn’t hear him. To be honest, I don’t even know what he said. He came out to say that we played dirty, but we only did our duty,” defending the performance of his team, who fought hard against the world champions.
The Paraguayan winger concluded his statements with a tone of pride, despite the defeat. “We did everything. We played every ball that came our way as if it was a final game. We lost bravely, as Alvaro said,” referring to coach Alvaro, who praised his team’s fighting spirit despite being knocked out of the World Cup.
