‘Bye, bye, old friend’: Ted, dog from Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, dies aged 13 | Television

Sad news for fans of Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing. Ted is dead.

The dog, a patterdale terrier mix, first appeared on a BBC fishing series with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse in 2020 and have joined them regularly on their river cruises since then.

News of Ted’s death was confirmed by a BBC announcement. Lisa Clark, executive producer of Gone Fishing and Ted’s owner, said: “Ted was a beloved family pet and a treasured friend to Paul and Bob on Gone Fishing.

Clark, who rescued Ted from a kennel in Surrey in 2013 when he was six months old, added: “He will be sorely missed at home and on TV.

In a statement, Mortimer said: “So sad. Dear Ted, a great friend and a great chum. I will miss you so much…

Whitehouse added: “Bye bye Ted, an old friend, he wasn’t a dog, he was his own kind.”

Ted will make his final appearance in the ninth series of Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, due to air later this year. Ted published a book, A Pawtobiography, in 2024, which became a Sunday Times bestseller.
