Both Joan and Helen said they were unhappy with how the police handled their case.
Joanne said she had not had a good experience with Gwent Police and had experienced poor communication from the force.
She believes that her case is not always taken seriously as it is seen as a love scam.
Gwent Police said Joan gave her first account on 9 July 2023 and David Griffiths gave two voluntary interviews on 18 December 2024 and 6 January 2025.
“During the investigation into David Griffiths there was a lapse in contact with one of the victims for a period of time and he has issued a written apology,” the spokeswoman said.
He investigated all reports of fraud, including love fraud, and hoped that Griffiths’ successful conviction “will be taken seriously by anyone who comes forward with a report”.
Helen said she faced hours of questioning after Griffiths’ lie was exposed.
She also said that she should facilitate the transfer of information between forces.
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police, who dealt with Helen’s case before it was handed over to Gwent Police, said: “We apologize for any further frustration and distress caused by the lengthy investigation. We are always looking to improve the service we provide to people victimized by these heartless scammers.
Both women said they were asked how they didn’t know people were lying to them – but they didn’t feel ashamed of Griffiths’ crimes.
“You were shy at first, but I’m not anymore,” Joan said.
“He’s the criminal… he infiltrated my life, he infiltrated my family and my money. He should be the one, not me.”
