Broadway star Jessica Vosk asks for privacy after ‘fangirl’ barges into dressing room | Theater

The Broadway star Jessica Vosk asked for backroom secrets to be respected after revealing how a “fanatic” found her dressing room.

Vosk, who played in the musical The beaches at the Majestic theater in New York, posted a video about the incident on Instagram. He said someone had entered his dressing room following a group of people Vosk knew. “I don’t know how it happened – I’ll find out,” he said. After a few minutes Vosk realized that the visitor was unknown to the host group. “It’s really scary when it happens,” he said, “because it makes the player feel like they’re in a really stupid place.”

It is customary for fans to wait for a chance to meet the actors at the door after the show, although this is not guaranteed or expected as part of the actor’s career. Vosk said that he did not appear at the Beaches stage door due to the high demands of the music. “This show has really inspired me and I haven’t had a day off and I’ve been going, going, going as far as I can.” His goal, he said, was to be healthy and when the curtain came down he wanted to “go home and sleep”. He ended his video with a plea: “Please don’t try and sneak into someone’s room at the show. They’re dangerous to us. It might not scare you, but it’s about us.”

Fellow players showed their support for Vosk on social media and shared their experiences in similar situations. Kristin Chenoweth said: “It’s happened to me. Kay-Megan Washington said incidents like this “happen all too often” and she wants more security. Lea Salonga said: “This makes me so angry! After meeting two actors in his dressing room in 2023, Salonga criticized the “entitlement attitude” from some and said that buying a ticket to the show “doesn’t mean full access”.

The problem goes beyond Broadway. In 2023, American actress Sophia Bush said on the eve of her first performance in 2:22: A Ghost Story in London, “a man put a camera in the window of our mother’s dressing room” Later, the same man “pushed his camera against our curtains” before a member of the group intervened and the intruder fled.

Beaches, based on the book that was turned into a movie, stars Vosk and Kelli Barrett as lifelong friends.
