The first medal of the day went to Bethan Davies, who claimed her eighth UK title in the 5000m – and her first since giving birth to a daughter in 2024.
“It’s really special to be champion again. I’ve really missed athletics since I had my baby and I’m working really hard to get back,” said Davies.
“It’s tough, I’m balancing a lot of things at the moment and I’m pleasantly surprised with how today went.”
Guy Thomas won silver in the men’s event.
Issy Boffey continued her impressive season with a silver medal in the 800m, edging out Georgia Hunter-Bell who ran 1:55.93 to beat Kelly Holmes’ championship record.
“I’m very happy, it’s my second race of the season and it’s a big step up from the last time I ran,” Boffy said.
“This is my best work at the British Champions, I’ve also qualified for the Europeans, so now it’s going to be two Champions in one summer, it’s going to be great.”
In the men’s 1500m, Jake Hayward finished second behind Arlo Ludewick with a time of 3:38.97.
“It’s really bittersweet, I came here to win but it came up short. But it’s my first time in four years in the big picture, so to be able to put on a pair of spikes, stay healthy and challenge for a win is incredible,” Hayward said after undergoing surgery on both his Achilles.
In the field events, Hannah Lake won silver in the high jump of 1.78m, while Thomas Walley cleared 5.30m in the men’s pole vault to win silver, just shy of his PB of 5.35m.
“It was a right scrap there,” said Wally, who will compete in his first Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month.
“It’s my first silver, I’ve got three bronzes, so I’m really happy. It’s a big step in the right direction. I’m shooting great at high altitudes which I know I’ve got in me.”
