Media reports say the Brazilian president will meet his US counterpart at the White House in the coming days.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is expected to travel to the United States to meet with his counterpart Donald Trump later this week, according to media reports.

Brazilian newspaper O Globo first reported on the planned visit on Monday. Reuters reported later in the day, citing two unidentified Brazilian officials, that Lula would travel to the US in the coming days. Another source said he went on Wednesday to meet Trump the next day.

The White House has yet to confirm reports of the trip.

Relations between the left-wing Lula and Trump improved after the first period of hostility, when the US slapped tariffs on Brazil’s economy and forced Brazilian officials to drop a case against former right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro for complicity in a conspiracy.
