Brazil will issue a resolution against Lula’s ally in the financial crisis | Police News

Brazil’s federal police have carried out more than a dozen raids as part of a widening corruption probe, including one targeting a senator closely associated with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

On Thursday, Brazilian police released a statement saying that 18 hunting and seizure permits were killed in the state of Brasilia, as well as the states of Bahia and Sao Paulo.

One involved Senator Jaques Wagner, 75, the former governor of Bahia who helps lead the ruling Workers’ Party in Congress.

The documents were part of an ongoing investigation into “defective” financial transactions linked to former mortgage lender Banco Master.

Brazilian courts ordered the bank’s liquidation last year, and in March, its owner, Daniel Vorcaro, was arrested on charges of fraud, money laundering and other charges.

Thursday’s verdicts marked the latest in a series of raids to reveal the extent of Vorcaro’s financial crimes and how he ran a government corruption scandal.

Brazil’s Supreme Court approved a search warrant to allow investigators to investigate “a possible illegal relationship” between Banco Master and Senator Wagner.

It added that Wagner may have received “improper financial benefits” through his bank connections, including access to private jets and compensation, such as millions of dollars and real estate.

Instead, Wagner is accused of promoting the bank’s interests by pushing for regulatory changes that would have increased the amount of money that could be insured by the bank’s fund during a crisis.

Some of the warrants Thursday target people like Augusto Lima, one of Vorcaro’s former business partners.

Wagner, meanwhile, has denied any illegal activity, including receiving money from Banco Master.

“My property is white,” Wagner wrote on social media, adding that he received a “phone call of solidarity” from President Lula, who also expressed his “confidence” in him.

The Workers’ Party Senate has also issued a statement in support of Wagner, pointing to the senator’s statement and asking his supporters to “not be afraid”.

But the growing threat has grown to affect every aspect of Brazilian politics – and it could what will happen in the upcoming race for the president of this country in October.

Results in the presidential race

In May, The Intercept Brasil published a series of WhatsApp messages between Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, a right-wing candidate for the president, and Vorcaro, the disgraced banker.

The reports are said to show Bolsonaro is in a relationship with Vorcaro to finance a film about the life of his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently serving a 27-year sentence for subverting Brazil’s democracy.

Senator Bolsonaro, the eldest son of the former president, denied any wrongdoing, and any connection with Vorcaro’s fraud. In a social media post on the website, he wrote that he was “a son seeking support for a PRIVATE film about his father’s life”.

The far-right Bolsonaro is ahead in the race to oust President Lula, who is running for a fourth, consecutive term.

But while polls in recent months have shown the two candidates neck and neck, a poll conducted this week suggests Lula may be ahead.

About 49 percent of respondents to a CNT/MDA poll released on Tuesday said they would support Lula in a successful race against Bolsonaro. Only 36.8 percent said the same to the right-wing senator.

In order to gain support, Senator Bolsonaro released on Thursday the 12 most important points for his government, should he be elected President.

It included building five maximum security prisons, sending additional troops to the Brazilian border to prevent illegal immigration, and lowering the age of criminal conviction from 18 to 16.

He also confirmed that he would treat the rebels as “terrorist” organizations, echoing the principles of United States President Donald Trump, a well-known international supporter of the Bolsonaro family.

“They are being hunted by power and intelligence,” Bolsonaro said of gangs such as Comando Vermelho and Primeiro Comando da Capital. “Any criminal carrying a gun will be confiscated by our security forces.”

Crime is expected to be a major issue in the October race.
