Brazil bows to Morocco’s experience ahead of World Cup

Brazil’s football confederation president Samir Chaud has described facing Morocco in the 2026 World Cup opener as an “honour” for the Seleção, praising the Moroccan team’s position on the world football stage in recent years.

Chaud said Brazil will begin their tournament campaign against a team that has “dazzled the world” thanks to its personality, its organization and its distinct football identity, stressing that fans will be treated to a high-level match that will bring together two of the world’s most prestigious football schools.

According to Maghreb Arab Press’ Moroccan league website, Chaud added that the Moroccan national team is no longer just a prominent African force, but has become one of the most prominent emerging teams in the world due to the results it has achieved in recent years, in addition to the level of infrastructure, talent development and investment in the sport.

The president of the Brazilian Confederation emphasized that opening the World Cup with a confrontation of this size gives the tournament a strong start, expecting a game with competitiveness of both teams, high technical quality and mutual respect, noting that the match will most likely remain in the memory of football fans.

Chaud praised Morocco’s sports project, noting that the long-term vision, development of sports facilities and interest in the qualification of young players helped the Kingdom establish itself as an influential player on the international sports scene, and its victory in the right to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal strengthened its global presence.

The Brazilian official believed Morocco’s rise reflected the importance of ambitious sporting projects, stressing that world football is benefiting from the emergence of new powers that can compete at the highest levels.

As for his country’s national team, Chaud explained that Brazil has entered a new phase under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, a project that aims to combine the Brazilian player’s historic individual talent with the team’s collective discipline.

He stressed that Brazil’s history of five World Cup titles gives it no advantage over rival Morocco’s stature, stressing that success in modern football depends more on planning, organization and continuous development than previous glories.
