Ending a wave of speculation over his future, Real Madrid and Morocco star Ibrahim Diaz has decided to stay in the Spanish capital until at least 2030, rejecting the lure of Italian giants Juventus and other European clubs to focus his efforts on leading the Atlas Lions at the 2026 World Cup, now being held in North America.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the player’s contract extension has already been completed pending an official statement from Royals, a deal which is seen as the final answer to rumors linking him with a move away and confirms the strong relationship between the player and the club.
Juventus had expressed a serious interest in returning Diaz to the Italian league, where he made a huge impact during his illustrious spell at AC Milan, but the player’s commitment to Real Madrid remained unwavering given his exceptional form, which has made him the focus of many of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Diaz ended his season with Royals on a high note as he excelled in the second half of the season and played a key role in the team’s best periods under manager Arbeloa as he started 6 consecutive games as a false striker, linking the lines and supporting Vinicius in Mbappé’s absence, despite the dream away from Munich.
Diaz is currently focused on leading Morocco to the World Cup, a goal he has had in mind since representing the Atlas Lions, especially after his brilliant performance at the recent Africa Cup of Nations, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 5 goals and was named in the team of the tournament despite a controversial penalty kick.
Morocco take on five-time world champions Brazil in their first World Cup match today, Saturday, in what is set to be one of the toughest first-round matches in a group that also includes Scotland and Haiti.
