Arsenal retain interest in Bradley Barkola after missing out on Morgan Rodgers to Chelsea, according to Sky Sports News Reporter Dharmesh Seth.

The Gunners are looking for alternative options to bolster their attack after their top transfer target Rodgers joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in a £117m deal – which is a new record for a British player.

“Barcola was the odd man out. Firstly, would he be happy to do it again next season? Secondly, if Diomondeo comes in, where would Barcola find himself in the pecking order?

“If Arsenal bring in someone like Barcola, it looks like a very good fit.”

Rodgers missed out, leaving Arsenal to work to sign a marquee forward, however They have agreed a £34m fee with Club Brugge to sign winger Christos Tzouliswho is expected to replace the late Leandro Trossard.

Meanwhile, sporting director Andrea Berta continues to work with his unique approach to dealing with transfer targets.

“If you look at how Arsenal have gone about their business since Barta arrived, it’s not: ‘We’re going to focus on one player and that’s it.’ It is a very risky strategy,” added Seth.

“So, what they try and do is work on three or four targets for each position that they’re looking to hire.

“They’ll try and get their ducks in a row with four players, going as far as contracting four players.

“And then they take a step back and say: ‘Off the pitch, what’s the best value on the pitch?’

“Then they will have further discussions with Mikel Arteta, those involved in the recruitment and decide which players to go for.

“Rodgers was the number one target and they missed him. Yes, it’s a bit of a shock. But they obviously weren’t prepared to pay £117m for him. That doesn’t mean the window has been cancelled.

“They’ll get another deal on the background they’re looking at. They’ll come back again.”
