Brad Dalke: YouTuber challenges DP World Tour debut as he sits two shots off lead at BMW International Open | golf news

YouTube golfer Brad Dalke finds himself challenging for the title in his DP World Tour debut at the BMW International Open, sitting two shots off the lead at the halfway stage after a second-round 66 in Munich.

Best known for his contributions to the popular Good Good YouTube golf channel, Dalke is playing the tournament on a sponsor’s exemption and thrust himself into contention Friday with a six-under 66 that included seven birdies and a dropped shot on the 15th.

His score was bettered only by England’s Jack Senior’s 65 which left him second on 10 under, one behind South Africa’s Henny du Plessis, who followed his opening 64 with a 69 on day two.

Countryman Michael Holick and Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz are tied for second with Senior, while American Dalke is further behind English hopefuls Paul Wareing and Joe Dean and Frederic Lacroix at nine under.

Dalke, 28, was a bit of a golfing prodigy in his youth, winning the 2015 Junior PGA Championship and finishing as runner-up at the US Amateur a year later, which earned him a spot in both The Masters and the US Open in 2017, where he failed to make the cut in either.

Making his first appearance in a ranking event for six years, Dalke said: “I didn’t really have a goal this week. I just wanted to have some fun and enjoy it, and obviously shooting a 66 is pretty fun, so that helps the cause.

After a great second round, Brad Dalke left himself in contention heading into the third round of his first DP World Tour event.

“Yesterday, on that first tee, I was shaking like a leaf, and then going down the last few holes.

“I try not to look at the leaderboards, but seeing my name up there for the first time is hard not to miss them.

“It’s very nerve-wracking, but I love these moments too. I love playing in front of big crowds and big opportunities. It’s been fun.”

He added: “It’s a weird mix where there’s no pressure because I’m not here fighting for points and I’m not grinding every week during the (DP World Tour) season, but I represent YouTube golf in a way.

“There are a lot of people who love YouTube and love watching me, and they support me, so I’m trying to prove that to them as well.”
