In BMW’s brief description of the M3 CS Handschalter, it is said that the 3.0 L S58 engine is also used, in modified form, in the BMW M4 GT3 Evo that won the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year. BMW has been very successful with the M4 GT3 Evo, as it also won the Nurbürgring 24 last year, among other races. But the only M car with the S58 engine that anyone cared about at this year’s N24 started life as An April Fool’s story.
As 24-hour races go, the N24 is unique. Le Mans and Daytona have racing prototypes among the GTs. Spa-Francorchamps is just GT3, but more than 70 of them are on the same track. But the N24 includes everything from GT3 cars to Volkswagen Golfs, and it does so not only on the modern F1-grade GP Circuit but also on the entire Nordschleife circuit, with its narrow straights, crests, drops, and many blind corners. Seeing the drivers in the boards is dangerous, because of the speed difference.

This year’s competition had two stars. Max Verstappen took time off from his F1 career, got his license for the Nürburgring race, and showed he can keep up with the world’s best drivers in the world’s toughest race. Even if you’re a Verstappen hater, it’s worth checking out his race footage to see the master in action.
But Max was not the only subject of attraction, because he had to share the attention with the BMW M3 Touring. Originally thought of as a joke last year, the positive reviews meant that BMW had to confirm that in 2026. The powertrain is similar to the M4 model car, but the M3 Touring bodywork is unique. And just look at that!
Although the M3 Touring only qualified at number 22, it quickly progressed and spent most of the race—if not winning, then the podium.
