B&M fined £2m for food hygiene lapses at Birmingham stores.

B&M Retail Ltd has been fined £2m for serious food hygiene breaches at three stores in Birmingham, including rat-infested food.

The company was sued by Birmingham City Council after complaints were received to be inspected by the Environment Health Service between November 2024 and October 2025.

The council said there were areas including St Andrew’s Retail Park where officers found rat droppings and products on sale.

Mouse infestations were also found at Priory Square Shopping Center and The Fort Shopping Park.
