The future of Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez remains very much in doubt amid rumors of a move to Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain next season.
On the eve of the World Cup, he is still one of the most prominent stars of the Argentina national team, not knowing where he will play next season.
Sport newspaper reports that Alvarez is keeping quiet despite the overwhelming barrage of rumors and speculation about his future.
Alvarez was content to leave the door open to a move away from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The Argentine forward wants to play for Barcelona, while Atletico Madrid only want to sell him to Paris Saint-Germain.

A few days ago, Sport explained that Paris will try to re-open talks with Atletico Madrid and Julián Alvarez to revive a deal that did not start well during the initial contacts, or at least not all elements of it were up to par.
Madrid “Atletico” and Paris agree in principle on the essence of the process, because Alvarez wants to leave, and the Madrid club is not against his transfer to Paris.
But the only problem is that the value of the initially requested deal revolves around 150 million euros, an amount that Paris considers excessive, although negotiations may lead to its reduction, and there is also the possibility of involving one or more players in the deal to reach a final resolution.
But missing from this little equation was the third and ultimately most important element: Julian Alvarez himself.
The Argentinian informed through his agent that Paris is not his first choice at the moment and that his preferred destination is Camp Nou.

Julian Alvarez’s coolness over the idea of a move to Paris Saint-Germain could suggest the player is firmly committed to his desire to wear a Barcelona shirt next season.
Theoretically, everything should be easy, but they are far from it.
There is also a third party whose contract has not yet been resolved, that is the selling club, Atletico Madrid, and after the club’s social media campaign against Barcelona, it has become clear that the management of Atletico are not at all thinking of selling Julian to Barca.

In the conditions of this tense and hostile atmosphere, it seems that the start of the World Cup can be a turning point. In Paris, they prefer to enter a period of calm and reflection, no talks or even exploratory contacts at the moment, but rather an attempt to reduce tensions and wait for the World Cup to help all sides rethink.
Paris Saint-Germain are still keeping their doors open, Atletico Madrid are being asked to ease financial terms, but most of all, Julián Alvarez must show a genuine willingness to join the Champions League champions, something he has so far failed to do, either publicly or behind closed doors.
Barcelona are adopting almost the same strategy, there is a belief that the current tense atmosphere is not conducive to reducing financial demands or opening smooth lines of dialogue with Atlético, who feel that their pride has been affected.
Therefore, it was decided to freeze Alvarez’s file in the media for the time being, and to wait for the events of the World Cup to help calm the atmosphere between all parties.
With interested clubs entering a period of waiting and Julian Alvarez choosing to remain silent, it seems Atletico Madrid are the side currently in control.
