Bentley is planning to add a fourth model to its lineup, and today we know what it will be called: Torcal. The automaker has been working on its first electric car for a while now; it was seen experiment in the Arctic Circle late last year, giving us an inside look. A few weeks ago, another example was at the Nürburgring.
Speculation has been running high on what Bently will call its first battery EV—even though watchers spotted Torcal’s European and UK trademark earlier this year, the lack of a similar US filing suggests. Car and Driver to give an idea the car might have a Bentley Barnato instead. This Woolf Barnato, who raced Bentleys to great effect in the pre-war era with great success, including three wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1928, 1929, and 1930).

Instead, Bentley continues the convention that he has been using in Bentayga, Bacalar, and Batur, taking the name from a natural place—in this case, El Torcal de Antequera, an impressive series of limestone cliffs in Spain. When the machine manufacturer realized that the name also comes from the Latin word “torquere” – the root from which the modern word torque goes back – which seems to be an indication that Torcal will use electric motors, because this provides more torque.
