Bellingham is in real danger three days before the start of the World Championship

The coach of the English national team, the German Thomas Tuchel, sent a clear warning message to the star of “Real Madrid” Jude Bellingham, stressing that his place in the starting line-up is not guaranteed 3 days before the start of the 2026 World Cup.

Tuchel confirmed in press statements after the Three Lions team-up friendly in New Zealand and Britain’s Sky Sports reported that Bellingham will face fierce competition for starting positions during the tournament, in a clear message that performance alone is the criterion for selection.

Rodgers starts… and Billingham is on the bench

The friendly ended with England winning by a clean sheet, but Bellingham’s absence from the starting line-up was notable as Tuchel gave Aston Villa’s Morgan Rodgers a chance to play from midfield.

The Real Madrid star did not come on until the second half in a tactical decision that raised questions about the 23-year-old’s place in the German manager’s calculations.

14 or 15 starters… having one of them

When Tuchel was asked directly about the competition Bellingham faces for a spot in the starting lineup, he was very clear. “Yes, there is strong competition.”

The German coach added: “He’s one of the main players and he knows it, but we have 14 or 15 players who are aspiring to play as main players,” clearly indicating the depth of options available to him.

He continued. “These roles are always changing, but right now I think we have about 14 or 15 real starters with one of them,” confirming the competition is wide open.

At his post-injury best

Despite the warning, Tuchel praised the physical and mental condition of the Real Madrid player, stressing that he is doing well after recovering from the injury.

He said: “He’s in good shape. He looks good in training. I think he’s at his best now because he’s had a rest period and he’s eager to get back on the pitch, which is normal after an injury.”

He continued. “He is very happy to be back on the pitch,” indicating that the player has regained full fitness ahead of the World Cup.

A history of stress

The announcements come in light of a history of tension between the two sides, with Tuchel previously criticizing the England international for his “repulsive behaviour” on the pitch.

The criticism comes after several spats between the Real Madrid star and national team players during training sessions and friendlies that have sparked widespread controversy.

But the German coach returned and later apologized in an attempt to calm the atmosphere and get things back on track ahead of the big tournament.
