Red Bull is reverting to a conventional rear wing for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix following high-speed crashes for Max Verstappen in the previous two races.
The move was confirmed to BBC Sport by Red Bull team principal Laurent Mackies, who said the team had found problems with their front wing in testing since the race at Silverstone.
Red Bull is going back to a wing that opens up in standard fashion for straight-line mode, Mackies said.
Red Bull and Ferrari pioneered a new design this year where the rear wing rotates over 180 degrees to open in straight-line mode via the top flap.
This gives a greater drag reduction and hence increased straight-line speed.
However, Verstappen’s crashes – one during the British Grand Prix and one during qualifying in Austria – were related to the way the wing closed when entering two high-speed corners.
