Before leaving… Conceicao makes one last promise to Al-Ittihad fans

The Portuguese coach led the Tigers to a hard-fought victory over Al-Etifaq

The coach of the Saudi Al-Ittihad team, Portuguese Sergio Conceicao, made one last promise to the “Tigers” fans before leaving his ranks next season.

Conceição led Al-Ittihad to a 3-1 win against Al-Etifaq in the thirtieth round of the Roshen League at the Ego Stadium in Dammam yesterday, Thursday.

The Portuguese coach said at the press conference after the victory, reported by the Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya. “It was a tough match where we faced a strong team and we played a great tactical game and the players showed up in a different way.”

He added: “We adopted a new tactical form and managed to win. We controlled the course of the meeting. We were the best and we deserved this victory.”

“I am proud of all the main players and substitutes. They played a great match, played with great concentration and managed to dominate the ball and create many chances.”

He concluded. “I am happy for the win, especially since we achieved it against our rival for the Asian seat, and in the remaining two games we will continue at this level and better.”

The win saw Al-Ittihad secure fifth place in the Saudi League, qualifying for the next round of the AFC Champions League for the Elite, 3 points clear of Al-Taawoun and 6 points clear of Al-Ittifaq, who have played a game more.

Al-Ittihad have two matches left in the Roshan League, where they face Al-Shabaab and Al-Qadisiya on Sunday and Thursday respectively, and a win in either of those is enough to officially guarantee an Asian spot.

It is noteworthy that all the rumors confirm that Conceicao will leave the position of technical director of Al-Ittihad after the end of the current season, especially after the negative results suffered this season and not achieving any title.
