Before facing Saudi Arabia.. Araujo explains his sudden trip to Madrid

Great fears of burning

Ronald Araujo, a player of the Uruguay national team, revealed the reason for his quick 48-hour journey from Montevideo to Spain days before the start of the World Cup.

Uruguay begin their World Cup campaign against Saudi Arabia on June 16.

The 27-year-old defender of “Barcelona” left the camp of “Celeste” on Sunday night, leaving for Spain. He underwent examinations with the medical staff who followed him before.

The trip caused more controversy than the injury itself. Araujo walked nearly 30,000 kilometers in three days, the equivalent of almost a full circle around the Earth, to treat a muscle strain that was described as minor. Crossing the Atlantic just days before the first game led the Uruguayan media to question the feasibility of taking the risk, despite the full confidence of the technical staff in his readiness.

Today, upon returning to Uruguay, Araujo said: “I’m coming off a minor calf injury and it happened during training. I don’t think it’s due to the intensity of the training, because we have a good control of my condition.”

“I can’t say for sure if I will be ready for the first match, and I can’t guarantee it, but I will do everything to participate in this World Cup.”

“I went to Spain for treatment because my close friends are there. I chose the treatment that is only available in Madrid… I wanted to travel with the team. I’m not tired of traveling and I’m ready to leave today to play in the World Cup. I hope the doctor will come and explain the matter to you.”

Finally, he commented on his brother’s post on social media where he directly criticized Marcelo Bielsa for putting too much pressure on him during training.
