In a few hours, the Saudi Arabian national team will face Senegal in a friendly match
Confusion reigns over Saudi Arabia coach Giorgos Donis of Greece ahead of his final friendly in preparation for the 2026 World Cup finals between America, Canada and Mexico.
Saudi Arabia’s national team will face their counterpart Senegal at dawn on Wednesday in the third and final friendly match they are playing in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya reported that Donis will start the match with the same starting line-up that he will play in the first match of the 2026 World Cup against Uruguay early next Tuesday.
The newspaper clarified that the Greek coach is satisfied with all the elements of the starting line-up, except the midfield, as he works to achieve the best combination for the last friendly match with Senegal.
Muhammad Kano is considered the closest element to filling the midfield for the Saudi national team, having played mainly in the last two friendlies against Ecuador and Puerto Rico, pending a decision on who will be next to him.
Donis, on the other hand, can now rely on goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi after he recovered from the injury he suffered at the end of last season, which kept him out of the matches between Ecuador and Puerto Rico.
The Al-Nasri goalkeeper is waiting to feature as he hopes to regain his starting place at the 2026 World Cup finals, after recently losing out to Mohammed Al-Owais, who returned to the Greens’ list and starting line-up.
Saudi Arabia’s national team opened their friendly matches with a 1-2 defeat against Ecuador before beating Puerto Rico 3-0, while their match against Senegal will be their last friendly before the World Cup.
The Greens will play in Group Eight of the World Cup finals alongside Spain, Uruguay and Cape Verde, with the World Cup kicking off in the early hours of next Tuesday against the Latin side.
