Because of Doku…a potential dilemma that confuses Belgium’s calculations

“Manchester City” winger Jeremy Doku is one of the key players of the Belgium team, which begins its World Cup campaign against Egypt on Monday evening.

Doku will become a father for the first time while the World Cup continues and he would like to be present when his child is born, which could pose a potential dilemma for the Belgium team.

Doku said in press statements reported by Reuters that his wife is due to give birth to their child in the second week of July, when the tournament reaches the quarterfinals.

“It depends on when it happens, but it’s the birth of my first child, so I definitely want to be there,” he added.

“If you ask me what I want, my answer is simple: no one wants to miss the birth of their first child. But I also know that football involves many other considerations.”

He concluded. “I know that the Belgian federation supports its players and understands their circumstances. We’ll see what we can do.”

Belgian media reported that preparations are already underway to allow Doku to travel to England to attend the birth of his child.
