The Catalan club was not surprised by Real Madrid’s offer
A Spanish press release reveals Barcelona’s stance on Real Madrid’s announcement on Tuesday night regarding a bid to sign Atletico Madrid’s Argentine striker Julián Alvarez.
“Real Madrid” in its official statement published on its website says: Real Madrid Football Club announced that it has submitted an offer of €150 million to Atletico Madrid to acquire the federal rights of player Julián Alvarez following today’s board of directors meeting.
After studying and evaluating the offer, Atletico Madrid thanked the club for the offer made within the framework of the good relations between the two clubs and rejected it, citing the penalty clause in the player’s contract.
The rejection comes as the Argentine striker’s contract has a release clause of around 500 million euros, reflecting the desire of the Atletico Madrid management to extend his contract until 2030, after joining the team in the summer of 2024 from English side Manchester City.
Atletico Madrid sarcastically responded to Real Madrid’s statement “We don’t thank you for anything. We have not investigated or considered any offer made for Julián (Alvarez). How can we not get along (we have a good relationship) and you make us laugh more than Barcelona?
Mundo Deportivo reported that the interim president of Barcelona, Rafael Juste, was aware of Real Madrid’s offer, but it did not surprise him.
He added that this move does not affect “Barcelona”, which does not change its plans regarding attempts to include Alvarez.
He noted that the Catalan club believed that Real Madrid’s attempts to poach Alvarez were more of a distraction than a threat to include the Argentine player.
