The press release states that Barcelona’s intention is related to the complications that have arisen during the negotiations of Atlético Madrid to involve the Argentinian striker Julián Alvarez.
After Robert Lewandowski officially left the Catalan team at the end of last season, “Barcelona” continues to search for a bright name worthy of filling the place left by the Polish star.
“Barcelona” has already presented a preliminary offer worth 100 million euros, and the president of the club, Joan Laporta, has made it clear that this offer will not remain on the table indefinitely.
However, Atletico Madrid remain determined to sign the Argentina international despite the player’s desire to leave.
The CEO of Atletico Madrid, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, recently rejected any suggestion of a change in the club’s stance, stressing: “We did not accept the offer of 100 million euros and we will not accept the offer of 150 million euros or 200 million euros.”
During Radio Cadena Ser’s “El Larguero” program, Santi Uvale revealed the next steps of the Catalan club. “Barcelona will make a new offer, although not soon. It’s between 120 and 130 million because they didn’t want to reach the 150 million that Real once offered.
The report adds that the Spanish league champions have set an internal deadline of July 31 to complete the deal. If an agreement is not reached before then, sporting director Deco is expected to turn his attention to alternative targets, with other transfer options already being worked on.
The Madrid club has already informed Alvarez that he will join the pre-season training camp on August 10, after participating in the 2026 World Cup final with Argentina.
Barcelona are still eyeing Alvarez as their first target in the transfer market this summer, but they are also running against time.
