Britain’s Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo became the first rider and horse combination to win the Badminton Horse Trials three times.
Kanter, 40, who helped Team GB win team gold at the 2024 Olympics, was competing 16 weeks after giving birth to her second child, daughter Seneh.
Canter and ‘Walter’, also known as his 14-year-old bay gelding, lead Harry Mead and Anaghmore Valloner after the dressage and cross-country elements, with a fence in hand.
Meade and Anaghmore Valloner put down a fence during Sunday’s showjumping finale, meaning the leaders had a cushion of 10.2 penalties.
Canter and Lordships Graffalo then used those two penalties in overtime for a final score of 25.7, with Tim Price and Falco finishing second.
It was Canter and Lordship Gruffalo’s third badminton win in four years and the first pair to claim three wins since the prestigious event began in 1949.
to stay Burghley won the horse trial for the second time Last September, they made the now five-time Five Star winner, Lordship Grafalo, the most decorated horse in the event’s history.
“I thought he knocked his socks off out there today,” Kanter told BBC Two, holding up Seneh. “I can’t express in words how lucky I am to be riding a horse like him.
“He enables me to push myself to a position where I believe I can be one of the fastest riders in the world.”
He added: “I can’t thank everyone enough for helping me because it takes an army to do it.
“I feel incredibly lucky to be able to juggle both jobs. Being an event rider, it’s a real family sport and we’re very fortunate to be able to do both at the same time.”
