Australian police have released footage of Peter Falconio’s killer interview

Australian police have released a body camera interview with the man who killed British backpacker Peter Falconio as they try to get him to reveal the whereabouts of his body.

Falconio, from Huddersfield, was shot dead in July 2001 on a highway near the Northern Territory town of Barrow Creek, 186 miles (300 km) north of Alice Springs.

Killer Bradley Murdoch, 67, died in prison last year of throat cancer without revealing where his remains might be.

The footage was released to mark the 25th anniversary of the disappearance by Northern Territory police, who said the force was “committed to bringing this investigation to a conclusion”.

In the video, a police officer is heard telling Murdoch: “I want you to think about whether Peter Falconio is your son … and somebody knew where his body was.”

“I don’t know anything about it,” replied Murdoch, wearing a green prison jumpsuit.

He added, “Don’t beat around the bush because I’m always going to cut you short, okay?

“I don’t know anything. I’ve been saying this for 22 years. I don’t know anything. You ask these questions. I don’t know anything.”
