Australia have given their bowling attack a huge boost by bringing back Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood for the two-Test series against Bangladesh.
The trio played just three Tests between them during the home Ashes series, with Hazlewood missing from Australia’s Test team since July 2025.
Their return – alongside the selection of seamer Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland – could create a selection headache for Baggy Greens head coach Andrew McDonald, with Boland taking 20 wickets in the series against England as Australia won the series 4–1.

Nathan Lyon has returned from a hamstring tear against England in last winter’s Ashes to make Australia’s Test squad for Bangladesh.
Australia’s chief selector George Bailey said, “Scotty would never say it, but I think he’s making a strong case that he could be one of the big three (fast bowlers) when you use the term”.
The return of Hazlewood and Cummins means Michael Nesser is out despite taking 15 wickets in the winter Ashes series.

The squad also sees a return for opener Jack Weatherold, who, despite scoring 483 runs at 60.37 for Leicestershire in the County Championship, looked vulnerable. The 31-year-old Weatherold could start batting for Australia in his hometown if he is selected for the first Test in Darwin starting on August 13.
Warwickshire overseas player Beau Webster also provides an all-round option in the middle order for Australia, with Cameron Green also looking to make an impact with both bat and ball after a disappointing Ashes series.
Australia’s two-Test series against Bangladesh, with the second Test being played in Mackay, Queensland, will provide preparation for a strong three-Test tour of South Africa in October.
